Sunday Champagne Specials at 151 Boutique Bar @ Hotel Indigo

Maybe you are one of our fellow service industry employees whose weekends fall on nontraditional days, or perhaps business brings you into town at the end of the weekend. In any case, just because it’s Sunday doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything to do in Asheville! There are plenty of Sunday specials to be had and events not to be missed, even amidst all the early closings. Here is a brief rundown of things to do on a Sunday in Asheville.

Hotel Indigo’s OneFiftyOne Boutique Bar: from 7 – 10pm the bar offers $2 champagne and great atmosphere provided by “sonic scientist” Ben Hovey, who “accompanies original tracks from his laptops with keyboard and trumpet” for an “atmospheric, jazzy, downtempo house-y” effect.

Table Restaurant’s Sunday Fried Chicken Special– 5:30 -10:00pm, $20 person, 20% off select wines; Fried chicken with traditional and nontraditional fixings. A la carte & Chef’s Tasting Menu also available. www.tableasheville.com/

Scandal’s Nightclub– Free admission for service industry employees, just bring your pay stub! www.clubscandals.net

All the local movie theatres operate normally on Sundays, so catch an independent flick downtown at the Fine Arts Theatre (www.fineartstheatre.com, last showing at 7pm), or at the Regal Cinemas Biltmore Grande in the new Biltmore Park Town Square (www.regmovies.com). While you’re at Biltmore Park, take advantage of Brixx Pizza’s half-priced bottles of wine, $4 Bloody Marys, and 2-for-1 pizzas and appetizers! www.brixxpizza.com/asheville.html

Jack of the Wood, a Celtic-style pub located downtown, holds an unplugged session for traditional Irish music from 4-8 p.m. Enjoy a local brew and some unique pub fare while enjoying some a great Irish jam session! www.jackofthewood.com

Westville Pub, located just a few miles from the Sleep Inn West, is open until 2:00 a.m. even on Sundays, serving food until 11:30pm! The pub has pool tables, a popular patio area and multiple TV screens to keep you entertained if there is no live music. www.westvillepub.com

Desoto Lounge, just a few blocks past Westville Pub, is also open until 2:00 a.m. on Sundays, and serves food until 1:00 a.m. They have a basic but tasty menu of sandwiches and other standard pub fare. www.desotolounge.com

Also, quick tip: parking at meters in downtown Asheville is FREE on Sundays.

We’ll be running a series of these types of entries, so look out for what to do on the rest of the days of the week (except Fridays and Saturdays, which are no brainers!).
